Hello! It’s been a busy couple of weeks at Ginger Baker’s, with lots of Easter preparation. We’ve also been out and about, attending the Farm Shop and Deli show and a new-to-us market, in the nearby town of Kirkby Lonsdale.
It’s awards season and we are delighted to announce that we have been the lucky recipients of some! On Thursday, 20th March 2025 our very own Lisa attended the Cumbria Food Awards at Kendal College as a ‘guest’. Little did she know that by the end of the night she was to be named as the very first recipient of the Dave Myers Cumbrian Food and Drink Hero award. Named to honour fellow Cumbrian, Hairy Biker’s Dave Myers, the award was presented by Matt Tebbutt.
Working with Lisa, we all know that not only is she a great boss, but she is a huge advocate of all things Cumbrian. She’s long recognised how special this area is, and all that it has to offer. And whilst she may not be collecting Michelin Stars, she has been part of the local food scene for almost twenty years, collecting many awards along the way. This is the first time Lisa has been recognised for her personal contribution and we could not think of a better recipient.

Cumbria Food Awards 2025 at Kendal College

And hot on the heels of the Cumbria Food Awards, we are thrilled to announce that this week we won two awards at the British Bakers Awards. We retained our ‘Britain’s Best Traybake’ status from 2024, with a Fig, Ginger and Blackberry Traybake. It’s all the flavour’s you have come to expect from Ginger Bakers. but there’s a bit of a wait for this one, with it due to be released as one of our Small Batch Bakes.
We were super proud that our Westmorland Pepper Cake was announced as Britain’s Best Fruit Cake. The judges said it was ‘Hard to fault’ and we have to agree. If you’re not familiar with this cake, it’s a fruited cake with cloves, spices, a splash of ginger wine and then finished off with cracked black pepper to give it a delicious warming kick. We recommend you add this cake to your cheeseboards to add a really unique twist.
