August’s Small Batch Bake sees the return of a seasonal favourite.
Our Gooseberry and Frangipane Tart was one of the most popular bakes in last year’s Small Batch range, so we’re delighted to welcome it back for another summer. Handmade in the Lake District and available for a limited time only, it combines sharp, locally grown gooseberries with a light almond frangipane and our much-loved gluten-free pastry.
At the heart of this bake are gooseberries from Growing Well, the Kendal-based charity and social enterprise that supports people experiencing mental health challenges through horticulture, training and meaningful work. We’ve worked with Growing Well for many years and always look forward to incorporating their seasonal produce into our baking.
The naturally tart flavour of gooseberries pairs beautifully with the sweetness of the almond frangipane, creating a classic combination that feels perfectly suited to late summer.
Gooseberry and Frangipane Tart Made with Local Produce
Each Gooseberry and Frangipane Tart is made using a gluten-free version of our famous “Mince Pie” pastry. It’s a recipe that has taken time to perfect, and one we’re particularly proud of. Crisp, buttery and full of flavour, it gives the original pastry a very good run for its money.
The result is a tart that balances fruity sharpness with rich almond notes, creating a bake that’s equally enjoyable as an afternoon treat or served warm as a dessert with a scoop of ice cream.
As with many of our recipes, this bake reflects our commitment to sourcing high-quality ingredients from local farmers and producers. By working with organisations such as Growing Well, we’re able to celebrate not only fantastic local produce, but also the people and projects behind it.
