Say “hello” to the Team of the Year

Hello! If you follow us on social media you may already have heard, but we are thrilled to announce that last Thursday our amazing team was awarded the ‘Team of the Year’ award at the Baking Industry Awards. It’s a massive achievement for such a tiny team, and we are all delighted to have received such great recognition for the work we do.
Hosted by British Baker. the Baking Industry Awards have been awarding the best in the industry for 38 years. Entrants can be anyone from household names to small independents, with the judges shortlisting and visiting the bakeries in the months before the glitzy London awards ceremony.
We were awarded Team of the Year because they felt we stood out as an example of what a ‘Heart-felt and truly values driven business looks like.’

The judges were impressed with our ‘all hands on deck’ approach – if you have ever visited the bakery during the run up to Christmas you will often find one of the office staff covered in flour manning the shop. But it goes further than that – we are a team in every sense of the word, our weekly meetings in the bakery mean anyone can pitch an idea and be listened to. From recipes to baking tips, marketing ideas to wholesale stockists, we all have a part to play.

Speaking to our colleagues, they are most proud of our work with our volunteers. We work closely with a number of different people who need varying degrees of assistance. From our lovely Beth – who helps in the shop on Wednesdays, to work placements from local schools, and more recently a student from the ‘Right to Work’ scheme, we all love being a very small part of their week. It’s a true joy to work with people who make us slow down, listen and think a little outside the box. You can read a little more about some of our work in the community here.
